[EWMBA] 2016 Commencement Awards and Student Speaker Nomination Reminder

Hello Class of 2016!

Nominations are now being accepted for EWMBA Commencement Awards!  We know so many people make a difference in your education, but we want to ensure that you have the opportunity to recognize your classmates who truly embody the spirit of Haas through the Defining Principles and have made a lasting impact on you and/or the community.   This could mean they make a difference here at Haas, or in their professional lives (or both!).  These awards will be presented at the EWMBA Commencement Celebration on May 13 and will also be recognized at the Commencement Ceremony on May 20. The awards are as follows:

  • Question the Status Quo Award

We lead by championing bold ideas, taking intelligent risks and accepting sensible failures. This means speaking our minds even when it challenges convention. As leaders and creative thinkers, we thrive at the world’s epicenter of innovation.  This award recipient should embody these characteristics.

  • Confidence Without Attitude Award

We make decisions based on evidence and analysis, giving us the confidence to act without arrogance. We lead through trust and collaboration.  This award recipient should embody these characteristics.his award embodies these characteristics.

  • Students Always Award

We are a community designed for curiosity and lifelong pursuit of personal and intellectual growth. We know that there is always more to learn. We strive to engage with others in continuous pursuit of knowledge and growth. This award recipient should embody these characteristics.

  • Beyond Yourself Award

We shape our world by leading ethically and responsibly. As stewards of our enterprises, we take the longer view in our decisions and actions. This often means putting larger interests above our own.    This award recipient should embody these characteristics.

  • The Berkeley Leader Award

The Berkeley Leader redefines how we do business by embodying our defining principles. This award recipient should demonstrate sharing our defining principles, aspiring to live our principles, or living them/put them into practice.

The deadline for Commencement Award nominations is 9AM on Wednesday, March 30.  You will be able to vote on the nominees shortly thereafter.  You may nominate up to two students for each award (including yourself).  Nominations will be anonymous, but please list reasons for why you nominated each student (which will be published).

I’d also like to remind you to consider nominating yourself to represent the EW Program as the EWMBA Student Commencement Speaker.  This is a unique opportunity to address your classmates as you conclude your program and we encourage you to nominate yourself!

If you would like to represent the EWMBA Program and your class, please complete this nomination form using these guidelines:

  • Submit a 1 to 2 paragraph statement explaining why you would like to be a commencement speaker and what you would talk about in your speech. These will be shared with the graduating class to vote on.

  • Optional link to YouTube videos (under 3 minutes) will also be accepted with your statement as a sample of your speaking.

  • The deadline to submit your statement is 9AM on Wednesday, March 30.
