Applied Innovation & WE Innovate Update

As we have mentioned previously, there are some important changes to the Core schedule this fall. Last year, students completed Problem Finding, Problem Solving (1 unit) and Applied Innovation (2 units) as separate courses. The capstone to the Applied Innovation course was the Mid-Program Academic Retreat (“MPAR”).

Beginning in Fall 2016, PFPS and AI will be combined into a single 2-unit Applied Innovation course. The focus of that class is to provide you with a hands-on experience innovating in teams. It will introduce the tools and frameworks of PFPS and the opportunity to immediately apply them on a project of interest to you. Projects will take the perspective of an internal corporate innovation effort or of a “lean start-up” entrepreneurial effort. Applied Innovation will be a 10-session course that will start the week of August 10 and close the week of November 30. The class will be co-taught by Sara Beckman and Dave Charron for all cohorts. Course syllabi will be available on bCourses in mid-July.

WE Innovate (formerly known as MPAR) will run as a separate 1-unit course that builds on the subject matter covered in AI. WE Innovate is graded on a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory basis and, like all core classes, is a graduation requirement. It will be run by Clark Kellogg and Dave Rochlin. This 3-day academic retreat will be held at the Silverado Resort in Napa from January 13-15, 2017. Please save the date as attendance is mandatory at all sessions during the weekend.

If you have any questions about any of these changes, please feel free to reach out to Janelle Hofeditz, Director of Academics.

Operations Waiver

For students with a demonstrated competency, you should consider registering to take a waiver exam for Operations. If you passed the CPIM exam administered by the American Production and Inventory Control Society, you may be eligible for an automatic waiver. Click here to read more about the waiver process, review the days and times that waiver exams will be offered and register to sit for for an exam in July.

Welcome Back Bear Necessities

Please watch your email on Thursdays beginning on July 21 when we resume sending out the Bear Necessities e-newsletter. This is your need-to-know newsletter for all things happening in the EW program and Berkeley-Haas.

Office Renovations

The EWMBA Program Office is being renovated beginning on Thursday, June 30th. We expect to move back into our reconfigured office on Friday, July 8th. During this time, the best way to contact a staff member is via email.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!
